I had a lot of fun doing a little boy's room. Of course I still bought 3 (With Lu I bought 4!) bedding sets before I settled on this one. It is pretty impossible for me to makes decisions. We went for a much more subtle color scheme for his room compared to her room. Wow, seeing that pink makes me a bit nauseated. Needless to say, it is back to tan in her room also!

Griffin is using my old furniture and his sister's crib.

My cousin made this print for me. It fit perfectly into the room.

- you are starting to get very attached to me. it is pretty cute, but very hard for daddy.
- you are starting to look more like your daddy. your hair is loosing it's red coloring though.
- you were blessed by your daddy right before you turned 3 months old. it was beautiful. you had lots of family and friends there for you. you are a very loved little boy.
- i finally scrubbed off your colic cap. you lost so much hair. i cried and cried.
- you are weaning out of the swaddle. you fight and fight to get out.
- you giggle and smile every time you see your sister. she hugs you a lot and says you are her best friend.
- you are getting harder and harder to get to sleep. you won't fall asleep in my arms lots of times, but you aren't ready to fall asleep by yourself. this puts me in a pickle.
- you hate sleeping in our bed, this makes me sad. sometimes i just need you closer.
- you have the cutest smile.
- you went on your first week long vacation to bear lake. it was so fun and so exhausting. i feel it was a constant battle just trying to get you to sleep. you loved all the attention. you slept great at night from about 11-5.
- you fell out of your swing last week...break my heart. this was a huge eye opener that we need to get you sleeping in your crib. this has been a very hard transition. like i said, you aren't sleeping very well right now!
- you have been doing great on errands. you will stay happy in your carseat then cry a little, take a binki, cuddle your blanket, and fall asleep.
- you still take formula like a charm. it is lovely and makes it easy on me to leave you with daddy or run errands with you! thank you, thank you, thank you.
- because of your sleeping issues we are trying a no dairy diet for mama. it has been terribly hard for me this time around. i did this for 10 months before, not sure why it is so hard this time. we also switched to soy formula. we will keep it up and see what happens. what is with my babies and allergies to dairy?
- you had an ear infection last month. it was so hard to see you sick. i become so vulnerable when my babies are sick. it was a rough couple of weeks.
- i love you so much. i love to eat you.
- you tolerate your sisters tackles very well. i think you will be a tough kid.
- you are huge.
- I obviously found a love for Instagram this month!

-You love your sister. You smile at her often.
- You are a funny eater. Sometimes request a bottle, sometimes request mom. We are lucky when we guess it right from the beginning.
- When you smile your kinda move your neck and head like you are giving me the 'nod'.
- You are an amazing sleeper. Usually a 7 hour shift at night followed by a couple more hours. Heaven.
- You are such a different baby than your older sister was. I won't go into details, but you have regained my faith in 'normal' babies.
- We have both had thrush twice. Not fun. So painful. We feel pretty good right now and I am hoping that thrush stays away.
- I had to throw away all of our milk storage in the freezer due to the infection.
- You still sleep in your swing. You will usually fall asleep in the swing, then we turn it off when you are out. We tried many sleeping arrangements because I wanted to figure out what works best for you. In our bed, bassinet, pack and play, propped up on the bobby, your crib, the bouncer. The swing won. Now we are thinking we need to get you out of it. It might be a rough transition.
- Your sister loves to poke you and blow on you and squeeze your feet and push on your tummy and just plain torture you. You do not like this.
- You turn bright red than a shade of purple when you cry. Break my heart buddy.
- Names you go by: Grif, Griffers, Finners, Bubs, Brother, Brodder, Max, Baby, Boy, Babes, and of course, Griffin.
- You look adorable in stripes.
- You love the swaddle. It settles you. You can usually sneak your left arm out of the tightest swaddle.
- It is so refreshing to be able to sit and soothe you. My feet and back appreciated it. Sometimes you need walking and lots of jigging, but you will usually calm in my lap by rocking or jumping.
- I cannot believe how fast you turned 2 months old. I wish I had kept a better journal. 2nd child syndrome.
- You don't look much like me or your dad or your sister. You kinda look like one of your uncles. It will be fun to see how you turn out.
- I love you in a onesie.
- Your thighs are big and plump.
- You are 90% for your weight. 25% for your height. Short and fat Bubs.
- Having 2 kids is starting to set in. I am still trying to figure out what was so hard about 1 child.
- I am glad I realize this time around that it only gets harder. I am trying to enjoy having total control over you.
- You are pretty good about being out and about. I am so glad I finally learned the skill of pumping before we leave. No more trying to nurse in the sweltering heat, or in a dressing room, or in a nasty bathroom, or in plain sight! It takes a lot of pressure off of your anxiety prone mother.
- You are a little grunter. You grunt constantly when you sleep. It is getting a little better, but still, you grunt.
- The transition to 2 children was a lot easier than my transition to 1 child. I am a lot more at peace with my mothering skills. I know to not exceed myself. I know my limits. I know when I need a break, and lucky for me you will take a bottle. I have had a lot less anxiety and I give you most the credit buddy. Thank you.
- Your daddy loves you so much. I know he is so happy to have another boy in the house. We are pretty full of drama around here. Good luck.

- I don't love that you destroy your room while you should be having quiet time or napping.

going home sweet home

When we woke up on Wednesday, May 4 we knew it was time to choose a name. This was a very hard and touchy subject for us. We had discussed boy names for the last 5 months and there was no agreeing! We had 3 names in mind. I loved one of them and Rhett loved one of them. The other we both liked so we figured we would go with it. I bought a few things for his room with this letter on it. I spelled his name out with blocks on his dresser.

Well, Rhett threw me a curve ball when he started telling everyone his name while we were in the hospital. He had switched back to the name he loved - Griffin. He knew when he saw him that he wanted to name him Griffin. I knew my emotions couldn't handle this discussion so I put it off until we HAD to sign those papers. I won't go into details, but that morning was rough. One of those mornings you wish you could just forget about. One of those mornings you wish you could tell the difference between logic, new mommy emotions, and crazyness. I made Rhett fill out the papers. Honestly, when I saw my baby I thought he was a Griffin also, I was just not over the moon about it. Here I am 2 months later and I love his name. I do still slip occasionally and call him the wrong name, but we are getting there!

After 2 nights in the hospital, it was time to go home. I had mixed feelings. I wanted my own bed, to be with Lucy, get all our hospital bands off, my own shower, my lazy boy, to use all the new baby clothes, break out all my adorable blankets - one of my favorite things about having a baby is all the soft blankets, I spoil myself silly with lots of blankets. However, I do enjoy ordering room service, the nursery, the quiet, the cranberry juice on the rocks, not having to clean anything, no toys everywhere, and being taken care of. I knew I would miss all these things.

My mom was sweet enough to hire someone to clean our house while we were gone. Walking into a clean house with fresh linens on the beds, scrubbed toilets, no dust, and vacuumed floors was the best feeling a new mom could have. Everyone must do this while you are in the hospital!

Finally, home sweet home. Time to figure out how to be a mama of 2.

I was so excited for Lu to meet her baby. Rhett went to pick her up the morning after we had Griffin. He took her to the park and McDonald's on the way. She came in pretty shy. Didn't really want much to do with Griffin, she just stared at him. She gave me a hug right away and was so happy to see her mama.

She was nice enough to share bear. She kept putting bear's ears up to Griffin's nose so he could feel the joy. Lucy has been sniffing bear's ears since she was about 6 months old. Not sure when this habit will die.

After she had been there about an hour my mom was holding the baby and Lucy couldn't get enough of him. She was kissing him, stroking his head, holding his fingers.

Monday, May 2, 2011 I headed to Dr. Lash for my almost 38 week appointment. Up until now my doctor gave me no indication that I could be induced, but I was ready to beg and plead! Once again my blood pressure had spiked. He asked if I was ready to do this and I was so excited. I thought I would be induced later this week, but he said 'head on over to the hospital.' I was in shock, and so happy my kids birthdays would be 4 days apart. I was so worried of having him on his sister's birthday.

I ran home as fast as I could to pack up and hit the hospital. I couldn't get a hold of Rhett on the way home so I sent a neighbor over to tell him to start packing. We had Lucy's birthday party scheduled for that night, oops. We were going to have a different kind of birthday party! We promised we would make it up to her. I made it home and in a mad dash we packed up, grabbed the cameras, dropped Lucy off at the sitter's house, grabbed a Jr. at Arby's and headed in at noon.

Here I am right before hitting the bed for the next 14 hours. Rick came up and helped Rhett administer a blessing to me. I was quite nervous being induced, it was so different than my last labor. We started Pit at about 1:00 and by 3:00 I got the epidural. Phew!

We had lots of visitors in and out and in again. We were quite the party room. Most of my family was at the hospital when I was still just a 4 at 6:30. By 7:15 I was in so much pain and I wanted to push. I just knew his little head was coming out. Nope, I was just a 7. Three minutes later I was screaming, got checked again and I was a 9, no wait, a 10. I was ready to go, all I wanted to do was push, my epidural was not doing a thing, and there was no doctor in sight (except my brother!). I told Rick to wash up because he was going to have to deliver my baby. He didn't like that idea so he set out to find the resident with no success.

About 20 minutes later Dr. Lash arrived, Yay! I have never felt so much pain in my entire life. I have never screamed so much in my entire life. I was just not prepared. Not prepared to feel what I felt. I wish I had studied up some kind of relaxation methods. I kept forgetting to breathe, I couldn't get the rhythm down, and I just wanted this baby out. I really expected this to be like my last labor, but they were worlds apart. They all assured me I could do it. They assured me the baby was healthy, and I was healthy. Everything was fine, I was just hurting. I pushed with every muscle in my body for 20 minutes. At 7:37 pm our beautiful baby boy arrived. They placed him on my chest and I was shaking and bawling. I had no control over body or my emotions. Rhett was in tears. It was a very special moment.

It was very peaceful in our room after he was born. I immediately felt a sense of relief that we were all safe and healthy. A feeling you really cannot describe. My heart was pumping with love and contentment. I loved my little guy, my little girl, and my husband. We were all in this together.

After a couple hours with baby G, Rhett took him to the nursery for his first bath. He loved it. I was back in the room feeling very numb. I got an extra dose of epidural in my back when I was feeling so much pain. It really kicked in after delivery and I couldn't move a thing (till 4 am).

They brought him back nice and fresh. It was time to relax with just the 3 of us. The picture above is the view from my bed as I dozed off to sleep. Well, not exactly, I only slept 30 minutes the first night. I was just too excited. What an amazing day. I had given birth again. We were now a family of 4 and Lucy would meet her brother in the morning.

26 weeks huge

Here I am at 26 weeks pregnant. I am about the same size I was when I delivered Lucy which makes me quite worried! My poor unstretchable skin is really paying the price.

This pregnancy has been very similar to my first with the exception that the nausea never really went away. I constantly have a stomachache which is really fun. I think I am much more tired this time around also. Poor Lucy doesn't get near enough attention from mom.

I also see a physical therapist 1-2 times a week for my pelvis. I have horrible pain with every step and every movement. They say it goes away after pregnancy, we shall see. I do know that I have really improved from when I first started.

Sometimes I start to wonder if I will ever feel better. It just doesn't seem possible. I keep asking Rhett if I am just always sick. He assures me it is the pregnancy. Let's hope!

It's a boy

At the hospital waiting to find out what we were having. Rhett's vote was girl, mine was boy.

Rhett and I didn't find out what we were having while we were there. We were going to have a sex party that night with all our family for the big reveal. My mom came with us so the tech told her after we left the room. I got really sick after the ultrasound, but that was normal for me because I am usually sick when I am pregnant. When all the family arrived we opened a present from grandma and it was a Utah onsie. Everyone was a bit confused because really a girl could wear this too, but I knew it was a boy all along. About 30 seconds after this picture was taken I ran to the toilet to throw up. I didn't make it in time and it was a mess! Ended up being the stomach flu and I threw up for 2 more days straight. I have never felt more sick in my entire life.

Rhett was in shock for a few days that it was a boy. He was soooo excited!!

Lucy had such a blast this year in joy school with all her 'best friends'. She was quite the stinker most weeks, but she loved it. Here we are making headresses for Thanksgiving.

On September 1st, Rhett came home to balloons and a decorated table. Lucy and I were so excited to share the news with him. I wrote up a little poem telling him to gear up for the next 9 months....here we go again! Lucky me was already ill by the time I found out I was pregnant. I am due the same day I was with Lucy, May 10. Apparently we really like to celebrate our anniversary in August!!

Halloween Party

I was feeling a bit guilty about not doing more fun Halloween things with Lucy. I didn't even get out my decorations this year. October was just a bad bad sick month. So we threw a family Halloween party. She loved it all, except the pumpkin carving. She was gagging, and crying, and screaming, and wouldn't look at it. It was hilarious.

I guess it gives us hope that maybe we will have one as well. Lucy has 17 cousins from Rhett's side of the family and not one has red hair. Pretty clever Sophia!

Joy School

Lucy is in a little Joy School in the neighborhood. She loves it, and I love a little break once a week. We lucked out with such a cute group of kids...Lucy is the biggest trouble maker of all.

We sold my very first car in August. I had this car 10 years! I was sad to see it go, but it was time to move on. We thought we would find what we wanted rather quickly, but it turned out to be quite the chore. After searching for four months, I finally found that perfect car! Pictures to come!

Sweet Grandma

Rick graduated from his residency as a 'chief' resident in June. It was an awesome night up at Millcreek Inn. Everyone is in love with Rick and he only got the best of remarks from everyone who talked about him. He is one great doctor (seriously, I ask him about everything!!!). And he is single for anyone who may want to marry a doctor!

Timpanogas Cave

We all made it to the top! Lucy hiked 3/4 of the way with Grandpa.

To jump start the Henriksen Campout we headed up to Timpanogos cave. It was awesome weather for a hike - a bit chilly actually. It is a bit crazy walking through a cave with a 2 year old, but luckily we made it through without loosing her.

Family Camping

We took our first camping trip of the year. We had a great time roasting, swimming, running, digging, torchering groundhogs, staying up all night, and enjoying being together. Lucy was in heaven with all of our attention. She loved the squirrels the most and still tries to find them every where we go. Can't wait to go again.

Ferris Wheel

We were lucky enough to enjoy Liberty Park before the oil spill. We fed the ducks, rolled down the hills, and took a ferris wheel ride. Lucy and Rhett loved the ride, but I got sick - yes, from a ferris wheel ride. I was sick for about 24 hours. I guess I better start packing my Dramamine, I just had to keep my Henriksen blood alive.

Adam's Canyon

We took a hike in June to jump start the summer. It was a beautiful day for a hike. I highly recommend this hike if you live in Davis County.

For Rhett's birthday we hit the driving range. It was very fun, but a bit frustrating. Apparently my swing needs some practice. We also hit Benihana for dinner - YUM. Happy Birthday babe - we love you. Hope you enjoy the last year in your 20's.

Lucy woke up to a birthday candle in her cereal. Then she got to go to Toys 'r us and pick out a toy. She picked a princess lawn chair (the girl is obsessed with chairs!). We hit Rumbi's with dad for lunch where he surprised her with balloons and more goodies. We took naps and woke up when daddy came home. Then we played with some new toys until her grandparents showed up. It was really nice and relaxing to have just her grandparents here on her birthday. She had full attention and LOVED it. I think we will be doing this every year. We had pizza and cake and played the night being entertained by Lu.

The big party was a few days later and hopefully I will post pictures of that soon. Happy Birthday Lucy, we love you to pieces.

Baby Sophia

We are sure loving having another cousin around. I was lucky enough to witness this little girl enter the world. It was an amazing experience and I am thankful I was able to be a part of it. So far she has been a dream baby. She is so beautiful and has Melissa's lips...lucky girl. Congrats to Melissa and Kelly. I love the bottom picture of Lucy showing off her belly button to Sophia. One day Sophia may actually interact with Lucy. I know Lucy can't wait.

This summer Lucy's hair has turned White. Crazy thing is mine was even a brighter white when I was her age. Isn't she the cutest?

Big Girl Bed

Last week Lucy got a big girl bed. She LOVES it. We transitioned her crib to a toddler bed a few months ago - that transition was HORRIBLE. This week was a breath of fresh air and we are all sleeping a little bit better. Lucy even slept until 7:15 this morning. Wahoo! It is wierd to think we are almost done with the major transitions with this girl. The next battle will be potty training. I guess we'll see how it goes!

'Bobbies'

Lucy is obsessed with her 'bobbies'. She takes one (or two) with us every where we go. Sorry if we offend anyone by carrying naked barbies around, but that is just how she likes them! Thanks to my mom for keeping all of mine to use. Not sure we can afford this habit yet - the good ones are expensive.

Lucy can't get enough of the summer play. We are slippin' and slidin', swimming, running, riding, exploring new parks, camping, going to the lake, having picnics, and eating lots of Otter Pops. This is the first summer I think I have enjoyed this much for a long time. I love watching Lucy soak it all in. She is just like her mama - a summer girl!

All about Lucy Lu

The past week Lucy has been sick. It makes your heart melt seeing your kids hurt. Now that Lucy is starting to perk up I am remembering all the cute things she does that I have missed the last week.

- Lucy's asks 'why' constantly. You would think she really knew what she is asking most of the time. Pretty sure she just loves the word and uses it at all the right times.

- She will say 'ooookay' when she is asked to do something she doesn't really want to do.

- Lucy has hit the no clothes stage. She gets everything off that she can.

- Still completely and hopelessly in love with her bear.

- Calls her binki (which MUST go) 'smee'.

- She loves putting us to bed. She will get a pillow, blanket, binki, and a bear for us.

- The girl pretends to write letters and words. She lays on her tummy on the ground with a pen in hand and has pretty good form while writing. So mature.

- Lucy is now climbing out of her crib. Not cool. We will be converting to a toddler bed soon. No more falling or climbing out of the crib.

- She loves to be outside. Lucy has truly loved the snow. She smiles and yells every time she sees it. However, I can't stand the cold and am loving the warmer weather.

Speaking of talented family...Rhett's cousin is married to Ty Burrell who plays Phil on Modern Family. Have you seen this show? We LOVE it. And we can't get enough of Phil. He is doing an amazing job and we are proud to call him family. Pretty sure every time I see him I am 'star-struck'. One day I will have the guts to get a picture for ya'll! Love it!!!

Welcome Home Elder Henriksen

Dan arrived home on December 2, 2009 from the California, San Fernando, Spanish speaking mission. This meant that I got to do lots of shopping with someone else's money - too fun! Dan looks great and it has been a blast to have him home. As you can see Lucy cuddled up right away. She hasn't stopped loving 'Da' since.

Lucy got her first haircut 2 weeks ago. The mullet had to go! We chopped about 2 inches into a little A-line. She actually sat pretty still for me. I love cutting girl's hair and can't wait to do it again!
